  Secretary Chris Spitz reported on the October 16 WRAC leadership meeting where PPCC was introduced to the new head of the Department of Neighborhood Empowerment, and provided updates on LADWP power infrastructure projects on the Westside and the status of local and state legislation including home-sharing ordinances, cannabis regulations, and accessory dwelling unit bills.

  The PPCC Land Use Committee held a public meeting on October 17, 2019, to review Calvary Christian School's application for modifications to its Conditional Use Permit and Coastal Development Permit, which would allow construction of new buildings, increased student enrollment to 490 students, and reduced parking requirements. The Committee unanimously recommended that PPCC not oppose the application, contingent on Board approval of language regulating concurrent use of facilities at the site.

  

• Marvin Braude Beach Path Extension Update

  The City of Santa Monica began construction on September 23, 2019 to improve the beach path from south of the pier to the Annenberg Beach House, including widening it to create separate pedestrian and multi-use paths, with completion expected by November 2020. The County of Los Angeles plans a similar project from the Annenberg Beach House to Will Rogers State Beach pending California Coastal Commission approval, with construction expected to begin in fall 2020.

  PPCC Wildfire Safety Advisor Miriam Schulman reports that four community members completed a National Fire Prevention Association certification course on evaluating homes for wildfire vulnerability, focusing on how blowing embers cause houses to burn. The course included firefighters, home inspectors, and homeowners, with the goal of disseminating wildfire resistance information to Pacific Palisades residents.
