Recent Developments -- SB 79 and Zone Zero
SB 79
:
We are awaiting word on whether the Governor will sign or veto SB 79 (if he does neither by October 12, 2025, the bill will become law). Meanwhile, not onl
y
PPCC
,
but also
Mayor Bass
,
CW Park
and th
e
Westside Regional Alliance of Councils
(WRAC), have all requested that Gov. Newsom veto this
dangerous and unnecessary
bill.
We thank the Mayor and Councilwoman for their letters and support,
and we'll continue to monitor.
Zone Zero:
The State Board of Forestry Zone Zero Advisory Committee met at the Pasadena Convention Center last Thursday for more than six hours, with hundreds of in-person and online attendees, including several PPCC Board members and Palisades residents.
Public comments at the meeting
overwhelmingly
indicated support for fire safety through
local control and science-based rules
rather than the draconian proposed statewide Zone 0 regulations -- including comments from CW Park; see the Councilwoman's letter
HERE
.
See also the recent
PPCC letter,
as well as
a
comment letter from five
LA Councilmembers
and a critical
report
from LAFD and the LA Community Forestry Committee. There will be additional
online meetings before regulations are finalized and adopted by the end of the year.
We thank CW Park for her support.
