Grants Committee Recommendation – Friends of the Library
The PPCC Grants Committee is pleased to recommend a grant of $5,200 from donations that
PPCC has received to the Friends of the Library to assist with the creation of an outdoor space
for patrons.
The Palisades Library was destroyed in the fire. As a bridge to continue serving Palisadians, the
LAPL is opening a temporary facility on the library site. This consists of two trailers/bungalows
in the former parking lot area, leaving the footprint of the prior library building free for
rebuilding the new structure. The bungalow closest to Alma Real consists of a community
meeting room with a table that can accommodate twenty people. The other bungalow
contains the “traditional” library facilities.
The temporary Palisades Library is scheduled to be “officially” opened in a brief ceremony on
Friday, February 27, with the head of the Los Angeles Public Libraries in attendance. The Friends
of the Library intends to convert the remaining parking lot area into an outdoor space to be
used by library patrons and others. They propose purchasing outdoor furniture such as 9’ sun
umbrellas, tables and chairs, as well as providing landscaping that will be temporarily stored in
containers (and planted once the library is rebuilt).
The grant recommended by the PPCC Grants Committee provides $2,200 for the removal of
burned/dead plants from the area, as well as $3,000 towards the purchase of furniture. The
Palisades Library was an important community space prior to the fire. The Grants Committee
believes that supporting its continuing operations while the permanent facility is rebuilt will
support the goal of overall Palisades Fire Recovery. The Grants Committee urges the PPCC
Board to approve a $5,200 grant to the Friends of the Library for the purpose described above.

Prepared in connection with the February 26, 2026, PPCC Board meeting.
