Pacific Palisades Community Council
Meet Bob Hertzberg & Lindsay Horvath:
On Thursday, October 27th, PPCC hosted the two LA County Supervisor candidates for District 3,
Lindsay Horvath
and
Bob Hertzberg
, at our regularly scheduled meeting. We sent 10 questions to the candidates, curated from the board and community, in advance and asked them to give opening remarks and answer the questions that reflect our Palisadian priorities. A video of the presentations and Q&A is above (and on our PPCC YouTube Chanel).
At our regularly scheduled PPCC meeting on October 27th
, we heard from Gene Oh, the founder of
Tranzito Vector
, the company that has been contracted by the City of LA to rebuild transit bus shelters across the city, per the city's Sidewalk and Transit Amenities Program (
STAP
). We received an informative and candid presentation which left the board with some questions and some assurances, as well as the promise of collaborative dialogue before anything is implemented in the Palisades.
The board was not impressed with the proposed design of the new bus shelters, but are still learning how many will be placed in Pacific Palisades and what specs can be adjusted for our community's needs and preferences. We understand that the new transit shelters will be prioritized for high transit ridership areas. We have been given assurances that digital advertising will not be posted on the shelters in our community, and that any electronic component will be for information purposes only (such as route timings and bus information).
We intend to reach out to City STAP and our new Councilmember to insure a good fit for any bus or transit shelters planned for the Palisades, and have asked Tranzito Vector to come back if need be. Look for more information as we receive it.
Example of a proposed bus shelter (above)
On September 20, 2022 the
Los Angeles City Council approved a bus shelter contract
with Vector Media and Tranzito. Approval and agreement have come in plenty of time for two of the world’s greatest sporting events to be hosted in Los Angeles, the upcoming Summer Olympics and Soccer’s World Cup. According to both parties, the implementation of the shelters will ‘modernize the City’s transportation infrastructure’ fitting of a world-class city. See the Vector press release

CRIME
: We had an extended conversation with SLO Brian Espin about the state of Palisades crime. We focussed discussion on one specific home invasion which took place in the Alphabet streets and took LAPD 14 minutes to respond. The Palisades car was elsewhere, as a result, the closest car was dispatched from West LA. The response time was unnerving to many and discussion was focused on how we can keep our community safe, what we can do to ask LAPD to improve response times, and how we might implement a community public-safety strategy.
UPCOMING
: SLO Espin offered some suggestions (see suggestions in his report below), and we have invited Jonathan Tom (now Commander at Operations West Bureau) to join us next month at our November 10th meeting. We will work to agendas a longer conversation of strategy with LAPD. We also hope to also meet the new Captain at the West LA Station, Captain Craig Heredia.
ANNOUNCEMENT
: West LAPD has a new Captain III, Craig Heredia. Jonathan Toma is now Commander at LAPD Operations-West Bureau. See his
