Pacific Palisades Community Council
10/22 Meeting Recap;
Events & Information
PPCC held its regular public Board meeting via Zoom
on
October 22, 2020
.  Here are a few highlights:
Area and At-large Alternates:
At the October 22, 2020
meeting, the Three Chairs Committee announced its nominees for Alternate Area & At-large representative positions, who were then elected unanimously by the Board. Each Alternate comes with an impressive background and a desire to serve the community.
See
Alternates List
.
We welcome the new Alternates to the PPCC Board!
Improvements to Chautauqua/PCH & Chautauqua/Sunset intersections:
CD11 and LADOT representatives gave presentations on improvements to these intersections.  We were pleased to learn from Eric Bruins, CD11 Transportation Director, that a left-turn signal is being installed at the
Chautauqua/Sunset intersection
(for westbound traffic on Sunset turning left onto Chautauqua southbound).  The signal had been sought by community members since the fatal motorcycle accident in 2017 and is expected to reduce collision incidents at this location going forward.
We also heard from Tim Fremaux, LADOT Senior Transportation Engineer, about changes under consideration for the difficult
Chautauqua/PCH intersection.
including possible new lane markings, signage and changes in turning lanes. Board and community members also gave input, stressing the long-standing concern about drivers constantly making dangerous & illegal turns onto PCH from the left lane heading southbound on Chautauqua (instead of making the required u-turn onto W. Channel Rd.). Mr. Fremaux listened to many suggestions for improvements and indicated that he will consult with Caltrans representatives regarding what can or cannot be done on PCH. PPCC will continue to actively monitor efforts to improve the intersection.
Palisades Beach Detail Status:
We recently received alarming word that
budget cuts may soon result in elimination of our critical Beach Detail.
The Executive Committee has therefore written a letter to Mayor Garcetti and Councilmember Bonin, stressing the importance of the Detail for the public safety of our community and urging City officials to provide sufficient funding for its retention.
See
Beach Detail Funding Letter.
Letters are also being written by PPTFH and Assemblymember Richard Bloom.  We will let the community know of any response received.
Due to time constraints, we deferred consideration of a
motion recommended by the Westside Regional Alliance of Councils
(WRAC -- in which PPCC is one of 14 member councils) to eliminate the "Gut-and-Amend" process in the State legislature. We may consider this and other WRAC-recommended motions at our next meeting on November 12, 2020. It was also unnecessary to take action regarding the
power pole replacement project
at this time, since we've learned that the required environmental mitigation plan is still being addressed and the project will not begin for some time.  We will continue to monitor.
