What's on the Agenda?
We have another
packed agenda at our first meeting in September, featuring interesting presentations and important requests for board approval!
Presentations:
--  The Friends of the Palisades Library will provide an update on the status of our beloved
Palisades Library.
-- The City Bureau of Engineering (BOE) will present information on  the status of
current and future infrastructure projects in the Palisades.
Committees:
-- The Grants Committee is pleased to recommend, for Board approval,
two PPCC grants
from funds received by PPCC to the following:Â 1) the Palisades Forestry Committee, and 2) the Crayon Collection. Â See the Committee's reports on the recommended grants at
PFC
and
Crayon
, and in the agenda.
-- The Bylaws Committee is recommending additional amendments to the PPCC Bylaws, including to add the
Malibu-Palisades Chamber of Commerc
e as a PPCC organizational member (1st Distribution of the proposed amendments); see the Committee's explanatory report and redline and clean versions of the amendments at
PacPaliCC
,
and in the agenda.
-- We'll also have updates by the
Rebuild Committee
(NORC-PPCC community survey status / coming soon!); and the
Land Use
Committee
(status of possible multi-family projects along Sunset Blvd.).
Announcements:
-- As always, we'll have reports and announcements from the President, Board members, government representatives and advisors.

All are welcome to PPCC Board meetings!
What's upcoming?
Our 2nd monthly meeting in September,
on
September 25,
will feature presentations
by the County Public Works Dept. on the Marvin Braude Trail
and by the Palisades Long Term Recovery Group
(
PaliLTRG
)
-- a "new initiative connecting fire
survivors
with donor relief organizations, recovery resources and disaster case management" (per CW Park). . . . We'll also vote on the proposed bylaws amendments, and we'll report on plans for the annual
Citizen of the Yea
r
event on December 11, 2025 . . , .
We won't allow the disaster to prevent this beloved community tradition, dating back almost 80Â years, with the first Citizen of the Year award in 1947!
. . . .
And on
October 9th,
we'll welcome a special guest speaker, Supervisor Lindsey Horvath, and have an update from the Palisades Recovery Coalition; in addition, new organizational board members will be seated (start of the PPCC organizational members' term and the fiscal year).

Messages / OPPOSITION to SB 79

At this writing,
SB 79 is on its way to a vote in the Assembly,
and then, if the bill passes, a confirming vote in the Senate in the next few days.
We have recently sent another message, expressing concern with the apparent inability or refusal by the bill's sponsor to explain whether recent bill amendments contain a full exemption for the VHFHSZ.
See our message
HERE
.
We haven't had a response. . . but we've been told that the City Planning Dept. interprets the bill in its current form as NOT providing for an unconditional exemption -- which we and many others
have
long insisted is
critical to the safety of the Palisades and all fire zones in the state.
Meanwhile, many groups, individuals and officials statewide are expressing strong opposition to the bill.  See a video
HERE
, showcasing recent opposition rallies held in communities throughout the state, including right here in the Palisades, where CW Traci Park was a featured speaker
(organized by Jessica Rogers / PPRA
)
-- the Councilwoman's strong comments can be seen at the end of the video!
And see another powerful video
HERE
,
demonstrating why SB 79 must be opposed
(don't be fooled
; even if qualifying "transit stops" are not here now, they may very well be added in the future in the Palisades, particularly if a
different
City Council or other City leaders with
different
political goals, who are not interested in protecting fire zone areas from additional dangerous density, are elected.
Next stop if the bill passes both houses -- the Governor
(and a possible
veto
).
We'll continue to monitor and raise our voices to protect the Palisades from bills such as SB 79, which would potentially mandate
streamlined additional housing density and thus put our vulnerable community at grave public safety risk.

The Lake Shrine Survived and Has Reopened!
Credit: Â B. Holden-Garland
We couldn't be happier to report that the iconic Self-Realization Fellowship Lake Shrine has reopened as of 8/27/25.
As described in an
LAT article
after the fire, the incomparable property was saved in large part due to the heroic rescue efforts of three incredible family members. Even the Koi pond and turtles survived!  We are grateful for all the Palisades landmarks that remain
standing
as part of our amazing historic heritage.
